Show me the mommy: weight loss update

This week, not only am I playing along with Laura's "Show Me The Mommy" December contest, I thought I would also provide a weight loss update. Here is my last update from October.

It's hard to believe that at the end of March I joined Weight Watchers with the hope that I would lose weight. Scratch that. It wasn't hope, it was an expectation and a willingness to do the program right so that I would be healthier, for me, for DH and for Cameron. It's been almost 9 months and as of my last weigh in, I am down just over 45 pounds. Yup, as my sister Allison would say I've lost an entire child. What would you say, second grader?

I'm toying with the idea of losing another 5 pounds because 50 seems like such a nice round number, don't you think? But technically I just have about 2 pounds to go to hit my personal goal and achieve lifetime member status. I still plan on attended the weekly meetings because they really keep me motivated and on track. Wish me luck going into the holidays! I hope to maintain and not gain but I'm not crazy enough to think that I'll lose weight while up in Massachusetts for the holidays. I'm already looking forward to crabbies (family appetizer) and homemade Christmas cookies and I refuse to not indulge myself.

It's sad that I got myself to the point that I need to lose this much weight. But if you had asked me at the start of this journey if I would make it this far I don't think I would have been confident. So it's nice to be on the other end of things wrapping up my weight loss experience. I still have to work on adding/maintaining exercise. It's fallen by the wayside with my illnesses of the past 3 weeks and I don't see much exercise in the next week and a half while traveling. Hopefully the new year will re-motivate me. Or I can do what my friend, Natalie, does and have people give me encouragement via Facebook to get my butt to the gym.

A little bit about me and DH

I saw this meme floating around and thought it was a good one since it gives insight on both me and DH. I wonder how many of these answers will change (aside from historical ones) once the baby arrives?

What are your middle names?
Mine is Williams and his is Kane. Both family names and we really like that tradition. I did hate my middle name as a kid though and wanted something simple like everyone else. Fortunately friends like Helen had their own family middle names and made me feel better. We will most likely be giving our daughter a family middle name to keep the tradition going.

How long have you been together?
Since August 2002 so we are approaching 7 years!

How long did you know each other before you started dating?
6 months or so. We worked together at SmallResearch and met at an offsite training event while on a smoke break. DH asked me if I was on IM and I lied and said yes. I quickly downloaded it when I got back to the office :-)

Who asked whom out?
DH asked me out. Interestingly he told me later that if he likes a girl he will ask her out 3 times and if she says no all 3 times then he won't ask again. I actually had alternative plans the first time he asked me so thank goodness I said yes the second time!

How old are each of you?
I am 31 and DH is 37. He needed a little more seasoning before marriage :-)

Whose siblings do you see the most?
We don't get to see our siblings very often because we live so far away. Probably mine because of family vacations. I definitely talk to mine on the phone a lot more!

Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?
Putting up crown molding in the half bath. Logic has nothing to do with how you need to cut crown molding to make it fit. I would like DH to put some in the master bedroom but I'm afraid it could cost us our marriage...Aside from that we have been very fortunately with our lives for the past 7 years.

Did you go to the same school?
Nope. DH went to a small liberal arts school in Vermont and I ended up at a arts & science university in Pittsburgh.

Are you from the same home town?
No, but we are both from Massachusetts.

Who is smarter?
DH is very common sense smart. He's a very handy person to have around! I am probably more book smart.

Who is the most sensitive?
I will cry at movies but DH is much more sensitive in "real life" situations

Where do you eat out most as a couple?
Eat out? That's a good one!

Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
Hawaii for our honeymoon. But DH has traveled around the world: Japan, Thailand, Africa, etc.

Who has the craziest exes?
DH has many more exes than I do so odds are on his side...

Who has the worst temper?
DH gets mad at things out of our control like waiting in line or incompetent customer service people. But we are both very non-confrontational so I can count on one hand the number of times we've actually yelled about something.

Who does the cooking?
We are pretty much 50/50 on cooking. I have a few dishes I make and he had a few of his own.

Who is the neat-freak?
We are both very neat in making sure the house is picked up. I'm not sure how long that will last once the baby arrives but for now, everything has it's own spot. And I like it like that.

Who is more stubborn?
My family would say me but I say DH. It's why we still haven't gotten a cleaning service...hint, hint!

Who hogs the bed?
Me but only because I'm preggers. The dog sleeps between us and he is the real bed hog.

Where was your first date?
Phoenix Landing, August 2, 2002.

Who is more jealous?
Neither one of us is a jealous person.

Who does the laundry?
I probably do it more frequently but DH is very good about doing it if I ask him too. It's great because he works at home so he can throw a load in at any point. He's usually pretty good about folding it right away too.

Who’s better with the computer?
We are both competent but DH handles the external hard drive so I'd have to give it to him. Really we just ask my dad if we have a problem.

Who drives when you are together?
DH. He even drove the entire way up to Massachusetts and almost the whole way back! Of course we were in the new car (Honda Pilot) and I've only been allowed to drive it three times since we bought it in August. So he can only blame himself.

25 Things About Me

Mommy, Esq. and BostonDish both tagged me on Facebook for this meme but I thought I would post it on my blog to share since my blog is linked to my Facebook page. For those of you who know me well or have even been reading my blog regularly, many of these won't be surprises. But I hope to throw a few unexpected nuggets in too!
  1. I am a picky eater. And I hate it. Here's hoping the baby takes after DH!
  2. I would love to write a fantasy novel but I'm lazy and prefer reading other people's works and appreciating/critiquing them.
  3. Shhhh. Don't tell DH but I don't mind cleaning. I just need to be motivated and preferably have NPR's "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me" on in the background.
  4. Shopping is boring if I go by myself.
  5. I love living in the South and don't miss the snow at all.
  6. I love that we were able to buy a house but worry we bought at the peak of the market.
  7. I want to create a totally awesome landscape in our yard. Think fountains and waterfalls. If only it didn't require lots of time, money and back breaking work.
  8. I miss family and friends in Massachusetts, especially with the little one on the way.
  9. My middle name is Williams. I hated it when I was a kid but now I think it's pretty cool to have a family name as a middle name.
  10. My sisters are my best friends (I never thought I'd say that during the high school years!).
  11. I couldn't have moved to Charlottesville for B-School or Charlotte for a job without the support and encouragement of my dear husband.
  12. I don't believe in soul mates but I believe DH is a perfect fit for me (and vice versa I hope!).
  13. I like my job but don't love it. I'm not sure I need to love my job to feel fulfilled.
  14. I wish I was an expert in one thing.
  15. I worry unnecessarily about things.
  16. I dream about winning the lottery but never play it.
  17. I work for BigFinance but DH handles our money. Good thing he does because that means we save lots of money.
  18. I don't miss smoking at all. 10 months, no problem.
  19. I don't really like watching movies. Especially re-watching them. But I re-read books constantly.
  20. I think my dog is the best-est dog in the whole wide world. He really is our first "baby."
  21. I could take multiple naps in one day and still sleep through the night.
  22. I am a day dreamer.
  23. I hate to exercise. Seriously hate.
  24. I am worried about labor, delivery and everything that comes after.
  25. I am excited beyond words to meet our little girl.
